Life is short
After this episode of SARS in Singapore and around the world, it really makes me so so so so so thankful for my health. I know it does sound cliché to say that wealth cannot buy health, but it's in circumstances like these, that you realize how true it is. And not just wealth, but everything that we build up in our lives that we think is so important. Careers, studies, wealth, fame, fortune, all these false idols that we think are so important to get us in high positions, to earn people's admiration, envy and respect. But you know what for a person who's down with SARS now, all these means nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Today as I prayed, I asked God to open my eyes to see beyond this earthly realm and understand what He is trying to teach us through all that is happening. It's so easy to be drawn into the fears, anxiety and panic with the nation as the number of people being affected and dying from SARS going up. But God is really telling us that He is our source of peace and comfort, our tower of refuge and strength on whom we can rely on. It is this tower that I have run to so many times and have always found solace and comfort in. And that nothing else that we build with our hands can secure our future. Only He knows our tomorrow and holds our future. At the end of the day, when it all ends, we bring nothing to this earth and we take nothing along. Sometimes, simple truth is enough to wake me up from my selfish, ungrateful, careless, unforgiving, greedy, indifferent and nonchalant ways..
What do you really want to be remembered for after your death? The wealth you made, the career you built? Nothing leaves a deeper memory than the imprints you leave on hearts and lives. Remember to pay someone a compliment, praise someone, thank someone, forgive someone and spread a little love around.
Do pray along for the war to end soon and that a cure can be found to treat SARS. Salute to all medical staff who are treating and taking care of the patients, who have placed their lives at the forefront in this battle against SARS. Your dedication and commitment to your work is more admirable and may God bless all of you.
